Un tueur psychopathe dont on ne verra, durant tout le film, que ses souliers et ses gants, occit en laissant à chaque fois un signe fort particulier, en l'occurrence, un bijou en forme de croissant de lune. L'inspecteur Vismara mène l'enquête et découvre rapidement plusieurs pistes possibles. Pendant ce temps, Mario, l'époux d'une victime qui a réchappé au meurtrier, se rend compte que chacune des victimes à séjourner, il y a quelques années de là, dans le même hôtel ...
